Tobin Ortenblad

Bio

Tobin Ortenblad has a Wikipedia page dedicated to him. We aren’t sure what that means, but we like it.

Also known as @McTubbin, Tobin started racing towards the end of middle school. At the time, he was a slacker, and going to practice each day with the high school mountain bike team meant he could skip gym class. As a kid, he was attracted to the novelty of dirt jumping and downhill racing, which is why he signed up. His plan to “game” the system immediately backfired on day one, starting with hill repeats, and most likely ending with a nap.

It was Tobin’s competitive drive that got him through his first day of mountain bike practice and eventually took him to the top, including 11 UCI CI & C2 wins and a silver medal at the PanAmerican Cyclocross Championship during the 2017-2018 season.

Following a massive cyclocross season in 2017, Tobin got back to hill repeats, working harder than ever. Early into the 2018 season, he crashed, got injured, and had to pump the brakes on his season.

Coming off of last year’s injury, Tobin is focused. His goal is to climb his way back to the front of the pro men’s UCI field. His 2019 cyclocross campaign will start in Rochester, NY, with season goals to finish in the top twenty at the World Championships in Switzerland and to win the USA National Championships in Tacoma, Washington.

When Tobin isn’t frolicking up and down the California mountains on one of his Santa Cruz bicycles, he can usually be found tinkering with something in his garage. He’s currently working on an impulsively bought 1987 carbureted Toyota pickup. Those aren’t tears in his eyes: it’s just such a beautiful “learning experience!” His hobbies beyond that include riding and wrenching on his Yamaha FZ09 motorcycle, and also riding his trail bike.
